Clachan Primary School is situated in the village of Clachan, which is adjacent to the main Campbeltown – Glasgow road, 11 miles south-west of Tarbert and 28 miles north of Campbeltown. In this rural setting, the school is not considered as a separate entity, but as an integral part of a thriving and active community.
Boys and girls of all denominations are welcome to enrol here where the stages Primary 1 to Primary 7 are taught and can be catered for in a well equipped, modern building.
We are an Eco school and have achieved 5 Green flags, we also practice teaching that goes beyond the four walls of the school. We are very fortunate to have poly tunnels in our playground, here we grow various food that are used in our lunches!
Our School, by the children
Our School, by the parents
I love the fact that at Clachan school the pupils learn from their environment, by going up the hill, along the beach, or working in the garden. Parents and other community members are often involved in the children’s learning, such as through paired reading, trips, environmental talks, forest schools or yoga.
Clachan school have brilliant community links. They offer beekeeping classes and sewing classes, both of which are well attended. The wider community are invited into school regularly, and the children have a healthy respect for members of the community.”
Lorien Silvan, parent and ex-pupil of Clachan Primary School
This school has loads of community spirit and is always taking new ideas on board, not forgetting Mrs Blake (the head teacher) who is very approachable and commintted to both the school and the children.”
Angela, parent of a new child a Clachan Primary School
“When the time came to send our daughter to school we looked at all of the local primary schools. Clachan stood out for a number of reasons. The first was the friendly approachable nature of the staff and children. When we phoned to enquire about visiting the school we were invited over the same afternoon. As soon as I walked into the school I was impressed by the industrious hum within the classroom. The next thing that impressed me was the self confidence shown by the children, They were totally unfazed by the task of explaining their work to unknown visiting adults. My daughter was more impressed with the playground and all the colourful artwork on the walls and keen to start as soon as possible. She is now completing her final year at the school while her younger brother is half way through. The only problem that I have ever experienced with the school is that it is sometime difficult to get the children to leave at home time!”
